Education is a human right; it is the key to both opportunity and success and something that illuminates a person’s critical and analytical thinking skills. Those that have access to learning within particular or multiple fields are better able to think, feel and act in ways that support their personal goals alongside enhancing the community.
Having said this, what becomes important to note is how there is still a significant knowledge attainment gap between the rural and urban areas of a country as diverse and still developing like India. As per a recent article published by IIM Calcutta, dropout rates in underserved and village areas remain high, amounting to 40 - 57% at the primary and secondary levels. This is despite the country’s earnest efforts in improving school facilities and spending generously on enhancing traditional classroom programs. There are numerous reasons for this such as limited access to qualified teachers or mentors, inadequate infrastructure, lack of awareness about higher-education pathways and of course; financial constraints.
The Education Empowerment Network (TEEN) was founded to address this very issue by not only providing resources but creating a holistic support system that informs and equips students as they embark on their educational journeys within high-school and beyond. By combining access to relevant tools and materials with mentorship and financial assistance; the project hopes to increase awareness of opportunities in young students while simultaneously fostering long-term confidence and equality in learning outcomes for them.
